What we collect, why we collect it, and how to get it deleted. There is no tracking and no advertising.

Who runs this site
buildinpublic.tools is run by The Digital Path Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15275931). We decide what personal data the site collects and why, which makes us the data controller under UK data protection law.

If you only browse
We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and we set no cookies while you browse without an account.
Our host, Vercel, handles every request to the site and keeps server logs that include your IP address, browser details and the pages you asked for. We use those logs only to keep the site running and secure.
The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address to Google when a page loads. Search runs inside your browser and does not send what you type anywhere.
Some tool listings use affiliate links. If you click one, the site you land on may set its own cookies to record the referral. That site's privacy policy covers what it does.
If you sign in
You sign in with X or GitHub. We never see your password. The provider sends us your username, your display name, the address of your profile picture and your email address. We use them to create your account and your public profile.
We only read your profile. We cannot post, follow or send messages on your behalf.
What you add yourself
Your profile can hold a bio and a website link. A launch holds the product name, tagline, description, website, tags, a logo and up to three screenshots.
Your profile page and your approved launches are public, and anyone can see them. That includes your display name, handle, profile picture, bio, website and links to your X or GitHub account.
Launches that are still drafts, waiting for review or rejected do not appear anywhere on the public site. The reason we give for a rejection is shown only on your dashboard.
Your email address is never shown on the site.
We email you when we approve or reject a launch. The email goes to the notification address in your settings, or to the address your sign-in provider gave us if you have not set one. Resend delivers these emails for us.
We do not add you to a mailing list because you have an account. The newsletter is separate. Its sign-up form is not live yet, and this page will name the service that runs it before it goes live.
Cookies
When you sign in, we set cookies that keep you signed in. They are strictly necessary for your account to work, which is why there is no cookie banner. We set no other cookies.
Who else handles your data
Supabase stores accounts, profiles, launches and uploaded images. Vercel hosts the site. Resend sends our emails. Google serves the fonts. X and GitHub handle sign-in.
Some of these companies store or process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer relies on the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Why we are allowed to use it
We use your account data because you asked for an account and a public launch page, and we cannot provide them without it. We keep server logs because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, profile and launches for as long as your account exists. To delete your account, email us from the address linked to it, or tell us your handle. We delete your profile, your launches and your uploaded images within 30 days.
Vercel keeps server logs for a limited period under its own retention rules. We don't keep copies.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere. Email hello@buildinpublic.tools and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather hear from you first.
Children
Accounts are for people aged 13 and over, the minimum age X and GitHub set for their own accounts. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes to this page
If we change what we collect or who handles it, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects your account in a significant way, we tell you by email first.
