WIP
A maker community built around one mechanic: post what you shipped today, keep the streak alive, and let the public log hold you to it.
Who it's for
Solo builders who start projects well and abandon them at week three, and know a public streak would fix it.
Standout details
- You log what you finished in one line, tagged to a project, and that log is the public record
- Streaks count consecutive days you completed at least one todo, and Pro adds streak freezes for the days you miss
- 3,760 makers are listed on the site, small enough that people recognise your projects
- Commit lets you put money behind a goal, which is the sharpest accountability feature I have seen on a maker site
- Weekly video hangouts, DMs, private projects, shipping stats and members-only discounts are included
What it is
WIP is an accountability network for people building in public. You post short todos as you finish them, tagged to a project, and the site keeps a public streak of consecutive days you shipped something. The homepage is a live feed of other members doing the same thing, which is the whole atmosphere: short entries, small wins, no thought-leadership.
Alongside the feed there are project pages, questions and answers, direct messages, weekly video hangouts and a members-only discount list.
Who should use it
People who already know what to build and keep stalling anyway. A visible streak in front of a few thousand strangers works on that problem in a way a private task list never has.
What stands out
Signing up today goes straight to checkout. The free invite-only era is over, so you create an account and pay before you have seen the inside.
Commit is the feature I have not found anywhere else. You attach a financial stake to a goal, so missing it costs you money instead of a number on a profile. Streak freezes are the counterweight, letting you protect a run through a day you genuinely could not post, which stops one bad week wiping out six months of momentum.
The rest of Pro is housekeeping: unlimited projects, private projects, detailed shipping stats, ad removal, user muting and the badge.
The verdict
WIP does one thing and does it better than a general startup forum, because the culture rewards output over revenue screenshots. The fee is doing work too. Paying $199 makes you show up in a way a free account never would.
The counterweight is specific. One reviewer who joined looking for conversation concluded that for the price it feels more like an indie side project than a polished product, and that Indie Hackers wins on engagement while being free. Both things can be true at once: the log is excellent and the talk around it is quiet.
Stay away if what you actually want is threads and debate. You would be paying for the one part of a community WIP does not really do.
Honest verdict
The streak is the entire product, so $199 a year is worth it only if you will post every single day and you know you will not do that unaided. Anyone joining for the conversation should try the free alternatives first, because one reviewer who went in expecting a community concluded Indie Hackers beats WIP on engagement while costing nothing. If you already post your progress daily on X, you have the mechanism and do not need to buy another one.
